Stah Millinery
Custom Hats - Vintage Design
                    Chicago

About Stah Millinery:
Stah hats are unique and very wearable designs.  Traditional couture millinery techniques
are used to hand form and finish each hat.

Each hat is first blocked using a vintage wooden form, a hand carved shape, a contemporary
hat block or free formed over a block.  The edge is then hand wired and finished.  The interior
head sizing ribbon is hand sewn to fit a specific head size.

Trim varies from vintage hat pins and brooches, vintage ribbon and flowers to handmade
vintage reproduction flowers and folding techniques.

About the Designer:

Amy Stirk's strong interest in vintage fashion and long-standing affection for millinery creations led to
studies at the Art Institute of Chicago, where she refined her interests and developed her skills as a
milliner.  Once her enthusiasm was focused, she launched STAH millinery.   Many people have
asked  where the name STAH came from.  It's hats spelled backwards!

The styling and detail in STAH hats reflects Amy's influences, most prominently the cloche of the Art
Deco period.  Amy hand blocks each hat, using the finest felts and straws, and then employs hand
finishing and vintage materials to create her unique and classic accessories.

Amy is a member of Chapeau: The Milliners Guild.  It is a Chicago-based organization of professional
milliners whose mission is to engage the public in an on-going discovery of the art, fashion, cultural
significance and craft of the hat.  We attain our mission through educational, charitable, social and
retailing events that involve our membership of professional milliners, as well as scholars,
educators, collectors and visiting artists.  Please visit
